Year 1 - Rabbits
Welcome
Learning
Library
Our library day is on Friday afternoon.
Please ensure that your child’s book bag contains their current library book so that it may be exchanged for a new one.
P.E.
Our P.E. day is Tuesday. The children need to come in dressed in their PE kits (navy shorts or joggers and white or blue t-shirt).
Music
Our music lesson will take place on Monday afternoon.
Equipment
The children do not need to bring any stationery or similar equipment into school, as all of the required items are provided in class.
We also kindly ask that children do not come into school with any toys.
Water bottles are permitted to be kept in a designated space in our classroom, where children can easily access as needed.
Home Learning
Homework will be set on a Wednesday and due in the following Monday.
Spelling
The homework sheet will include spelling activities based on our phonics learning from the week. Practicing these regularly at home will help reinforce your child’s understanding and build confidence in their writing.
Maths
The maths section of the homework will focus on skills your child has been developing during the week. Your child has also received their login details for Numbots, an enjoyable online resource that helps children strengthen their basic maths skills through fun, interactive games.
Reading
We encourage parents to read with their child daily, as regular reading significantly supports their academic progress and confidence.
Each week, children are provided with two books for reading.
Paper book - which will be placed in their book bag every Monday.
Online book - which will be available through Collins eBook Hub every Friday.
Your child’s Monkey Book is checked every Friday. Please ensure it is returned in their book bag on that day. We also request that you record a brief comment in your child’s reading journal each time you read together, enabling us to monitor and celebrate their progress at school.
SORA can also be accessed at home with a great variety of materials to read.
It is an online reading app that allows your child to access a wide range of eBooks and audiobooks at home or on the go. It’s a fun and convenient way to support their reading and explore new stories.
Educational Visits
We are planning an exciting visit to Hillier’s Garden! Further details will be shared with you as the date approaches.
